Cabin by the Water

 A night away before med school classes resume. 

Heat and light from kerosene lamps, wood burning stove, and campfire,

crescent moon ornamenting charcoal sky,

cold, cloudy breath,

shimmering embers,

red long johns,

a mouse friend scurrying over head.

So passed a winter's night in the cabin by the water. 

Northern Michigan: Cabin + Farm

Labor Day spent snuggly in my uncle's cabin in Northern Michigan. 

Crisp mornings: fresh eggs, sausage, and pancakes drizzled with sweet tapped syrup straight from my uncle's maples. 

Crisp nights: venison charred over the fire, peach cobbler, and marshmallows as big as your fist.
